The introduction prepared by "the Editor" (William Miller, the publisher as well) states that the "few observations ... will be for the most part taken from M. D'Hancarville's Preface and the various essays prefixed to the to the original work of Sir William Hamilton." The engravings are after works in "Antiquitiés étrusques, grecques et romaines" (Hancarville) and "Collection of engravings from ancient vases" (Hamilton; Tischbein, ed.)
